From 1993 to 2012 I had the privilege of working for two national associations representing the important industries of life and health insurance and forest products. In 2012, I took on the role of President and CEO of the national biotechnology industry association, BIOTECanada. The over two hundred and thirty member companies of BIOTECanada are representative of Canada’s biotech ecosystem more broadly which comprises a diverse mix of early-stage companies, multinational commercial pharma and biotechs, universities, research institutes, investors, and drug discovery and development organizations. Combined, the members of BIOTECanada are working to identify, develop and bring to the world solutions to address the health and environmental challenges facing the global population. Given the current times, a more interesting and important sector to represent is hard to imagine. Indeed, the science and innovations coupled with incredible leaders and scientific teams of all sizes make the Canadian biotech sector a global force.
